PE and Sports Premium
What is it?
The Sport Premium is a government funding initiative designed to help primary schools improve the quality of PE and sport activities they offer.
Schools receive Sport Premium funding based on the number of pupils in Years 1 to 6. For the academic year September 2017 to July 2018 schools with 16 or fewer eligible pupils receive £1,000 per pupil. Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil.
For the academic year September 2016 to July 2017, St Chad's CofE Nursery and Infant School received £8,600 of PE and Sports Premium funding.
For the current academic year September 2017 to July 2018, St Chad's CofE Nursery and Infant School will receive £17,200 of PE and Sports Premium funding.
Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and Sport they offer.
There are 5 key indicators that schools should expect to see improvement across:
- the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity - the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school
- the profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
- increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and Sport
- broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
- increased participation in competitive sport

What are we spending our PE and Sports Premium on this year?
Staff training and professional development.
Improved provision and inclusion for vulnerable children and children with additional needs.
Increased opportunities and access to a wider variety of experiences and extra curricular activities.
Increased participation in inter school competitions and activities.
Improving interventions, access and support for swimming.
Improving access to appropriate facilities and resources.

For as long as the school receives the PE and Sports Premium funding all of the above actions and associated impact are sustainable. This will be achieved by a commitment to ongoing development and improvement in staff skills and confidence and through increasing opportunities for and engagement and participation in daily physical activity, bespoke provision, interventions, extra curricular activities and inter school competitions and events.
