Upbeat Communities

As a Church of England school, we are proud of our school vision, LOVE, which sits at the heart of all aspects of our school. We are committed to playing an ethical and charitable role in our local community and within our wider world, providing opportunities for everybody involved in our school community to engage in social action projects.

At St Chad's, are immensely proud of our unique and diverse school community. We successfully nourish children of Christian faith whilst also welcoming and valuing children and families of other faiths. We have a growing number of children and families new to the country whom we welcome with open arms.Over the past year, we have forged a close partnership with the local charity, Upbeat Communities.

Upbeat Communities provides support to refugees and asylum seekers at different stages of their journeys. They address the needs of those newly arrived in the UK, as well as supporting those who have been through the asylum process and have been granted refugee status. Upbeat Communities work primarily in Derby, with some projects extending into Derbyshire. Their work falls into three categories: welcome, empowerment and awareness.

Over the next academic year, we will be heavily supporting one aspect of the charity's work, their Welcome Boxes. Arriving in a new country can be a daunting experience, especially if you have been through trauma and loss. The charity's welcome services aim to reach out to people when they are most isolated, offering a range of support to newly arrived refugee families and individuals in order to help them feel welcomed. We have recently launched our own 'Welcome Box' appeal to support the work of Upbeat Communities. Further information about this initiative and the work of Upbeat Communities can be found below.
